Periodic Ministry Reports

TOUCHING 2500 YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE SPACE OF A WEEK!

G4 Mission Ministry Report, Sept 1 – Oct 15, 2022

These forty five days (Sept. 1 to 15 Oct, 2022) just flew,

God’s grace greatly enabled us – that’s true,

Your prayers for us, was the glue,

We kept looking up beyond the blue,

To thank God for our ministry crew and you,

And for the literal thousands of Google Genners, who during this period of ministry, in their relationship with Jesus, grew!

*Month-end midnight prayer over Zoom on both 31 Aug-1Sept and 30Sept-1Oct. Close to 30 people from India over and beyond joined. Duke shared brief messages. The 1 Oct message is here:

*Twice we had the Fountain of Tears Against Mountain of Fears Fasting Prayer. We prayed for the nations, the nation, the Google Generation and personal tensions (of the people who joined the zoom). Once on 24 Sept and again on 08 Oct. This program is conducted once a month over Zoom on a Saturday, when Duke and Evan are free. A remnant who joined the 08 Oct meeting, were from Hyderabad, from Alibag, from Canada, from Bihar.

* On 7 Sept and 12 Oct we had our Kahoot Bible Quiz. On 7 Sept the quiz was on the book of Daniel. On 12 Oct the quiz was on Romans. Over 50 participants joined each time from India over and beyond. They were from different walks of life. They were from different age-groups and different churches. Duke taught the word of God as the quiz was played / The next quiz will be on 23 Nov on the book of Lamentations. We give out premium Study Bible, Bible Study Aids, Stylish Bibles for the top five, apart from ecertificates. We also give the top Child finisher a prize and a eCertificate. Here is the full recording of the Romans quiz:

Teaching Sound Doctrine through slightly tricky Kahoot Quiz questions! See Above! Joanna John, a child leads the field, in the Daniel quiz after question 13. Jerome, just 14 in second place. Our Kahoot quizzez has attracted people of different agegroups, churches, places. See below.
Calling the Google Generation for holiness through a Kahoot Bible Quiz! A question asked in the Shooting Daniel in Megapixel Kahoot Quiz of Sept 7, 2022.
We expose dangerous hell-populating false teachings through our Kahoot Bible quizzes! A question asked in the Romans Birth Pangs Kahoot Bible Quiz of 12 Oct. 2022
We had players who registered to play from all over India, France, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, etc. in the Romans Kahoot Quiz of 12 Oct 2022. Those from India were from diverse Indian cities, from Punjab to Palayamkottai, from Kolar to Khammam. In Chennai, an entire family sat in front of their laptop to play this quiz.

The recording of the 07 Sept 2022 Shooting Daniel in Megapixel quiz is here:

* We had a tracts outreach near the Thiruvanmiyur Railway station Chennai during early Sept 2022 and in the Harrington Road Chetput during Oct 2022. Apart from that Duke Jeyaraj gave out tracts to Auxilium College students as they waited to catch a bus in Vellore in Sept 2022. This was apart from the tracts given in Airport ticket issue staff, flight neighbors, train neighbors, etc. A Pastor in Karungal, Kanyakumari was sent 25 copies of the Bubbly Tract in Tamil following his request. Duke used the 1 Peter 1:8 method of sharing the Gospel via the ESV App to co-passengers atleast twice during this time. Here is a recording from the post-tract distribution devotion:

* We accepted invitations to preach in youth camps/conferences during this period. Sometimes, these invitations come one after an another. Let me explain over the next few paragraphs: On behalf of Christian Medical College, Dr. Sudha Jasmine, the chairperson of the organising committee of this great hospital and college’s  annual missions conference, called Shiloh, invited Duke to speak in the breakout sessions on two days. God blessed those sessions in which Duke brought a message on Triumphing over Tech Temptations: The Biblical Way Practically explained using the acronym T-E-C-H-N-O-L-O-G-Y. On both the days (Sept 30, Oct 1), there was a great response at the altar. The presiding doctor for 1 Oct session mentioned that ‘Brother Duke has considerably shaken us up’. The recording is available here:

Apart from this Duke gave a brief talk from the main stage on the subject of holiness starting with a cricket story. On the final day, 3 Oct, Duke Jeyaraj joined the panel to answer questions from the audience. He answered questions such as: “How can I not return to the same sin?”, “Can a mentally challenged person be saved and come to heaven?”, “How to make out if depression is from Satan?”, etc. This session was recorded and we will release it soon. Our books, Straight Talk (on Sex, Love, Marriage, Porn, Phone Addiction, etc.) and Daniel in Dell (the 2015 book broght back into print) were sold briskly in this camp. Atleast 10 people paid and ordered for the books after the stock of 15 disappeared in a few hours! The Days of Your Youth magazine and the Bubbly Tract (English and Tamil) and the Dhoni tract (back in print) were given free to those who wanted it. 1300 medical professionals from all over India joined this conference on location. 200 more watched over Zoom. The missionary call came to these young people from different directions from several other accomplished speakers – from South Sudan, from Bihar, from Assam, from Uttarakhand, from Uttar Pradesh, from Kotagiri in Tamil Nadu, etc. Bro. Mohan Patnaik, one of the plenary speakers, challenged the audience for discipleship and discovery of life purpose. Bro. Ashok Vedanayagam, founder of Sishya Team, gave a stirring gospel presentation on the last day night in Scudder auditorium which brought almost all the young people to front during the altar call (even on the stage).

Some pictures from the CMC meetings:

1200 medicos from India over participated in Shiloh 2022 / Duke Jeyaraj was one of the speakers.
After Duke counselled a section of the crowd that responded to the call given by Bro. Ashok Vedanayagam on 1 Oct 2022 night, the principal of CMC, Dr. Solomon Satish Kumar prays. Duke and Dr. Solomon were classmates in Ida Scudder School. When Duke preached his first sermon from stage as a Scudder School Class 12 student on 9 Aug 1991, Dr. Solomon was part of that ministry team, playing the piano.
Duke was part of the small group discussion team which Dr. Jesu and his wife led. Though a total of 1500 participants were there (on location plus zoom), there was a great stress on small group fellowship in this conference.
Duke Jeyaraj’s books, mags and Gospel tracts were received/bought with enthusiasm by the delegates of Shiloh 2022. WhatsApp us at 918886040605 if you need these. Straight Talk (on sex, love, marriage, porn, phone addiction and more) and Daniel in Dell are the two books that were bought for a combined price of Rs.400/- including courier. See Above. There was no compulsion for the 1200 delegates to attend any particular breakaway session. But many of them, a combined audience of 250-300 chose to attend the Duke-led breakaway session on Triumphing over Tech Temptations. See the picture from 30 Sept 2022 breakaway session below.

The Founding Senior Pastor of Jesus with Us Church in Tondiarpet Chennai, Pas. Swamy Doss, invited Duke Jeyaraj to preach in their youth camp in a Camp Site in East Coast Road on 04 October 2022. 70 young people were there. Duke Jeyaraj’s English messages were interpreted into Tamil by his uncle Pastor Gnanasekaran. The first message was a salvation message from Revelation 1. The second message was a frank talk on sexual purity. After both sessions, the altar call times were ‘sights for sore eyes’ as so many responded with earnestness. Then pastor Gnanasekaran had to leave as there was another prayer meeting he had to lead that evening. The next session, Duke handled it in direct Tamil. It was a Q and A time with Pas. Ajay asking the questions the youth asked to Duke and Duke answering in Tamil. This was all done live. The last message he challenged the youth for ministry involvement from little-known passages from the book of Revelation. Listen to that Tamil talk here:

70 youth were there in the Jesus With Us Tondiarpet Church Youth Camp in East Coast Road. My uncle, Pastor A. Gnanasekaran, was kind to interpret two of my messages (seen here). The other two sessions, Duke did in Tamil directly. Duke is learning this skill. Young people wrote chastity pledges after session two where Duke explained what is sexual sin according to the Bible with super Tamil translation from Pastor Gnanasekaran.

Duke Jeyaraj travelled to preach God’s Word in the Indian Pentecostal Assemblies National Youth Conference following Pas. John Prakasam’s warm invitation. 1100 youth from joined (from all major districts of Tamil Nadu) and beyond. Duke’s message from the book of Ephesians on holiness was well-received. He talked about 1) Chosen for holiness 2) Commanded for holiness 3) Compass for holiness. It was delivered in the English-Tamil format. There was a section in this message in which Duke outlined the list of ‘secret sins’ the Bible talks about. He specifically called those repenting from secret sins to come forward. Atleast a few (around 20) came forward. The recommitment prayer-time was powerful. Next, Duke spoke in the breakout session on Finding God’s Will. Three young men came forward and mentioned how this talk was an immense blessing for them. Both of Duke’s presentations were recorded. They would be uploaded later onto Duke’s youtube channel which now has over 1900 videos. We welcome you to subscribe, comment and like these videos. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/visitduke

* These three youth meetings from Sept 29 to Oct 5 meant that 2500 plus young people were blessed in total by our ministry – all glory to God!

*These 45 days, we took up select counselling requests over whatsapp audio. We cannot give details because we maintain confidentiality. ‘Can I pillion ride with a young boy as an unmarried girl?’ – was one question Duke answered. ‘I am not able to move on after my breakup with a non-Christian girl who has moved on’ – another question Duke answered. In fact, we had a 1 hour 15 minutes of live Q and A on 21 Sept called Question Thirst Quenched Truthfully. The following questions were answered briefly from the Bible: Some questions answered in this episode:1) How did you start your ministry and develop a ministry team? 2) Can a mother with small kids work? 3) I am not able to focus at all. Help me. 4) Can I consult a Siddha Doctor? 5) Can Beleivers Date? 6) Is not the husband the head of the home? 7) Is Satan extra active at 3 AM in the morning? 8) Can an introvert marry an extrovert? 9) Can a Pentecostal marry a Roman Catholic? Watch the episode here:

The next Question Thirst Quenched Truthfully will be on 19 October, Wednesday, 9PM to 10:15PM Over Zoom, God Willing.  WhatsApp us at 91-8886040605 if you want to be invited. No preaching. Just live Q and A. For one hour 15 mins straight.

* We have had two long Bible Study series for small groups so far. One was in all the 66 books of the Bible, a process that took seven years (2007-14). Duke summarized the message of all these books via small group Bible studies using the very name of the book as an acronym. Many of these messages are online. Watch the episode on Song of Songs uploaded on Youtube 9 years ago here:

Then Duke did a Bible study series on all the doctrines of the Bible – a 20-part series, a process that took four years. From Doctrine of God to Doctrine of Hell. Here is one episode from that series:

The third Bible Study series is presently on. It is called, Chosen Chapter Chew Covering Contemporary Issue (C5I) which Bible chapter exposition is wed into contemporary issue study. On 4 Sept 2022, Duke Jeyaraj did a chapter study on Nehemiah 6 with the focus on the contemporary issue of Digital Communication against the backdrop of a scandal involving a megachurch pastor from Texas. You can watch the study here:

On Oct 30, the next chapter chosen will be studied and the video released on our Youtube.

Our volunteers were busy these 45 days. Professor, Dr. Sheeba worked on a message clip of Duke and got out this short video with illustrations:

Gipu James created quote posters, youtube thumbnail, video event invites and a lot more. Here is a quote poster which Gipu who now lives in England with his wife, Esther, created for us:

Ravi Alamothu touched up the cover for the book Daniel in Dell and sent it to me. Eugene Pandian designed a fresh cover for 2012 book Goodnews for the Google Generation now back in print. Here is the new cover for this book where the best of Duke’s gospel messages are assembled together in prose, poetry and personal story:

This book will be sent to our regular partners without any charge. Please send us a WhatsApp via 8886040605 mentioning your name, full address with pincode, phone number as a single message saying ‘send GGG book’. For the rest of you in India, the price is Rs.250/- including courier charges. There will be a donation link at the end of this report.

Vikas Yadav keeps churning out video after video for our ministry. Here is one of the videos he created which carries the testimony of a young girl who was blessed by Duke’s message delivered in Hyderabad on 27 Aug 2022:

Sunny Karumanchi, now back in the USA, worked on the messages I preached in Hope UC Church in Hyderabad during August 2022. Here is the short second message – titled, The 360 degree Christian – we just released after Sunny’s editing:

Naveen Vamsi, a young man from Hyderabad working now in Bangalore is another faithful video volunteer. He carved out a short video from a long live Q and A video of Duke Jeyaraj and came out with this gem:

If you want to be a volunteer with our ministry, let us know by an email to emailduke@gmail.com or whatsapp to Duke at +918886040605.

*We use social media to impact the Google Generation the best way we know how. A simple less-than-one-minute message I recently shared on Instagram reels saw more than 4000 hits. Watch it here:

Over Instagram Reel, Duke Jeyaraj has been compelled by the Spirit to bell the cat when it comes hell-populating popular false teaching. Here is one such reel done in the last 45 days:

Another video in the same vein – warning people about false teaching and calling God’s people to be grounded in Scripture:

*Some personal news now: Our son, Dale is in his 2nd year of college in a top college in New Delhi. He shared God’s Word recently in a small group fellowship in Delhi. Our Daughter Datasha is in class X. She was recently baptised in water. She came first in her class when her reports card came in last week. God is answering your precious prayers for us and our ministry! We are grateful.

Stories from my life

Started This When I was 16 Years Old….

Duke Jeyaraj

Fiercely introvertish. Super shy. That’s who I am still. That’s Duke Jeyaraj even now. But my God chose me – and when I get to heaven I will certainly ask him why – to preach His Word. 31 years ago as a 16 year old, I preached God’s Word from a stage for the first time as a class XII student of Ida Scudder School, Vellore, on this very day – 9th August. This journey has been marvelous and I fall down at His feet and worship Him acknowledging my nothingness. To each one of you who have ‘endured’ my sermons all these years I am most grateful.

Some of my preaching heroes are in heaven now. One of them is Rev. S. A. Sundarraj of Vellore-6 Assemblies of God. Once I paid a courtesy visit to him. He was in the church. He was the one who recommended me to Southern Asia Bible College for the M. Div. course. His face lit up as he saw me. He then asked me this question: “Will you preach the message in our church, this Sunday?” I was flattered. I was floored. Me, to preach in the church I went to week after week as a little boy? Me, to preach in the church where I was baptized in water? Me, to preach in the presence of my pastor?

When the day came – a Sunday in the month of May 2011 – Rev. S. A. Sundarraj introduced me to the congregation. He said, ‘Duke and me have a lot in common. We can start with anything we see or anything we have read in the newspaper and preach a message from that!’ And I went to preach a message that Sunday that was titled, Bible Lessons for Today’s Believers From India’s World Cup Win with Dorai Jasper annan interpreting into Tamil. The message can be heard here:

One of the joys that I have had in all these years of preaching is this: I have preached in meetings organised by others. By others I mean churches. By others, I mean parachurch organisations. By others I mean loosely-administered corporate company fellowships. By others I mean College Administrations or School Administrations. This way I have crossed many different boundaries and barriers. The kingdom of God has been built.

Another surprise that I have had in these 31 years of preaching is this: though I do not preach to get invited again, there are places I wanted again. Though I tell people what they should hear and not what they want to hear, in some cases, they want me back. For example, after I preached in a youth camp in Germany in 1998, the pastor wanted me back in 1999. I have been invited again to speak in a top medical college in their annual camp. Why do I say this? When you are faithful in executing God’s call upon you as a preacher, you will not become ‘jobless’! I am a witness!

Thank you for all your sacrificial support to my preaching over all these decades! I am ever so grateful!

Two Who Walked Into Tough Situations: Dhoni & Guess Who?

Duke Jeyaraj

Life Lessons From Thrilling Moments From The Cricket World Cups

WHEN DHONI RAN TO MEET WITH JOGI!

World T20 Final 2007. India versus their arch-rivals Pakistan. In Johannesburg, South Africa. Pakistan needed 13 runs to win off 6 balls with just one wicket in hand in the inaugural T20 World Cup Final. A seesaw game it was. Tension in the air. Spectators at the edge of their seats. Mahendra Singh Dhoni in what was his first international tournament as captain entrusted seamer Joginder Sharma – a bowler he had seen defend totals as low as 2 runs in domestic cricket – to bowl the crucial last over with the dangerous-looking Misbah-ul-haq of Pakistan on strike (despite his star spinner Harbhajan having one over left in his bowling quota). Misbah had hit Harbhajan  for three huge sixes in over number 18. Joginder bowled an ultra-wide as the first ball. Captain Dhoni calmly collected the ball and ran all the way to the other side of the pitch to put an arm around Joginder, who had by then walked back to his bowling mark. After giving him a brief pep talk, Dhoni ran back to the usual wicket-keeper’s position. Dhoni told him this: “If we lose this game, I will take the responsibility. So, relax and give your best! You have done it in small grounds when no one was watching you. You can do it when the whole world is watching you!”  Misbah was beaten off Joginder’s next ball, “trying to carve the ball away over point,” as commentator-on-air Ravi Shastri put it. He thrashed over the bowler’s head the third ball, which was an innocuous fulltoss,  for a huge six to make the equation 6 off 4 balls for Pakistan. Yet, again, Dhoni took the long journey from the wicketkeeper’s customary spot all the way to the fastbowler’s starting point. Another short-session of nerves-calming! Going by the next ball Joginder bowled – a slower ball with the word ‘trap’ written all over it – this may have been Dhoni’s advice: “Don’t try to contain Misbah. Try to get him out!” Sambit Bal’s lines about the last ball of the World T20 Final 2007 is worth quoting: “Then, with only one wicket in hand and fine leg in the circle, Misbah went for that scoop which, not for the first time, ended in tears for the batsman. Sreesanth would have never taken a more important catch in his life. But for Misbah, who has been Pakistan’s surprise star of the tournament, it will take some forgetting.”

The God who made you and me, did something similar to what Dhoni did in that climatic final over. We had goofed up like Joginder. We had sinned and were in danger – the danger of going to eternal hell, the place which God made for the Devil and his angels. God could have chosen to just watch this happen. But he did not. Just as Dhoni ran from the wicket-keeper’s position to the start of the bowling mark of in the T20 World Cup Final last over, God too travelled. He left the comfort of heaven and came all the way to earth, just to save us. Yes, Jesus, God in flesh, came down to seek and save us, sinners, the Bible, God’s Word in human words declares (Luke 19:10).

WHEN DHONI PROMOTED HIMSELF IN THE WORLD CUP FINAL VS SRI LANKA!

It was late evening of April 2, 2011. India had to come up with the best ever chase done in a World Cup Final – overhaul Sri Lanka’s imposing 274 – to win the World Cup 2011, 28 years after the magic day when Kapil Dev and his boys won it in the year 1983. Virender Sehwag, first and  Sachin Tendulkar, later, got out rather cheaply. India’s score stood at 31, when Sachin, just one short of his 100th ton then, got out. When the well-set Virat Kohli after a fighting 83-run partnership with “iron-willed” Gautam Gambhir also got out, caught and bowled brilliantly by Tillakaratne Dilshan, India were in real danger.  In danger of losing the World Cup Finals. In danger of not becoming the first ever team to win the World Cup at home. That’s when Captain M. S. Dhoni stepped in. He volunteered to bat at Number 5.  He could have stayed back and sent into the tension-filled middle, the in-form Yuvraj Singh. But he marched out of the Indian dressing room to bat at Number 5 when India still needed 161 runs to win in the 22nd over (161 from 170 balls, to be precise). The required run rate was almost 6 an over and had to be maintained for 28-plus Overs – that was the huge challenge before Dhoni when he walked in! In his previous seven innings leading up the final, Dhoni had just scored a grand total of 150 runs! Yet, he backed himself. He volunteered to go up the batting order when India was in a crisis. He stuck his neck out saying, “I will do this for India!” He told coach Gary Kirsten that as Lankan ace spinner Muthiah Muralitharan was operating he wanted to go ahead of the inform Yuvraj Singh. As the movie, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, opened, we got a breath-taking, eagle-eye view of the entire Wankhade Stadium in Mumbai with the camera slowly zooming into faces in the stadium abuzz with untold tension. Rohit Vats, writing a review for this movie, hits the rewind-button on those goose-bumps-giving moments no Indian cricket fan will ever forget this memorable way: ‘When India is reeling at 114 for 3 (in a chase of 274) against Sri Lanka in the cricket world cup final of 2011, a man decides to take charge of the situation. It helps that he is also the captain of the team. He silently walks past the crowd, enters the ground and creates history. The cricketer’s image of rotating the bat as if he is wielding the sword is etched in our memory’ (Hindustan Times, April 15, 2017).

For the first 10 overs of his stay in the middle in that treasured final match, Dhoni did not hit a single boundary. He ran like a rabbit between the wickets, converting the singles in twos. Apart from hitting 25 fours and a couple of sixes, Indian batsmen chased down 274 with 99 singles, 24 twos, and even a  three. To do this, hectic, hare-like running was required and Dhoni was most ready for that. He was sweating, he was blowing his running nose and he received treatment for his back “as the Mumbai heat took its toll.” Andrew Miller reported, “Dhoni at one stage looked so immobile that a precautionary retirement seemed the only logical response, but after some harsh work from the physio he resumed his stance and responded with another trademark filleting of the extra cover boundary, an area in which he scored six of his eight fours – three of which helped to blunt Murali’s attacking instincts.” Sidharth Monga observed, “Once Gambhir tired, Dhoni took over the responsibility of scoring. In the time that Gambhir moved from 87 to 97, Dhoni went from 29 to 60.” In utter desperation, Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara threw the ball to his strike bowler Lasith Malinga hoping that he would take two wickets off two balls  or do even better. But Dhoni hit him for two consecutive boundaries through mid-wicket to hasten India’s World Cup win before a roaring crowd in Wankhade Stadium! Dhoni was the calmest soul in Wankhade Stadium, Mumbai, when he hit the Cup-winning six for India with 10 balls to spare.  And India was home! The World Cup was India’s! Quite memorably!

HE CHOSE TO SWIM IN THE AMNIOTIC FLUIDS OF MARY…

You and I are in danger. The danger of living a life of hell (life without purpose, meaning and real joy, a life in which you are empty despite having everything) and going to a literal hell (a place where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth forever, a place which Jesus spoke about  8 times). That’s when Jesus stepped in.  Jesus could have stayed back in heaven and sent someone else to save you from going to hell. He did not. In eternity past, there was a meeting held in heaven. In that meeting Jesus stood up. “I will go Father! Just give me a body! I will get into it, become a human, go to the earth and die for the human race. I will march down the Calvary route and open a doorway to save the human race!” (my imagination based on Psalm 40 and Hebrews 10 from the Bible). He came down and became a man. He chose to swim in the amniotic fluids of Mary rather than swim in the praises of angels and cherubs in Heaven. God took on flesh and bone. Yes, He did it for you. Yes, He did if for me. For everyone – he did it. When he was stopped from the Cross-route, he was determined to keep going, the Scripture records (Luke 9:51). He called as ‘Devil’  the one who discouraged him from walking down the road to Golgotha. On the road to the Cross,  Jesus endured infinitely more discomfort more than Dhoni ever did in the World Cup Finals of 2011.

The following 12 ‘s’ torment Jesus endured to win the only true salvation offer for you. Here they are:

First, SOLD. Judas sold priceless Jesus for  a price that was less than the price  of a man 20 to 60 years old, according to the Bible (Leviticus 27:3). We sell Jesus even today when our friends apply peer pressure on us, don’t we?

Second, SWEAT. In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus sweated blood, the Bible records (Lk 22:44). This happens only when a person experiences highest tension. That punishment would have been apt for a pleasure-lover, like you and me. But Jesus took it upon himself.

Third, STRAPPED. Jesus was bound by ropes before High Priest, the Gospel narratives of the Bible tell us (John 18:12). The most-free man on this earth, Jesus, was now bound. Why? Jesus was dying to release a poisoned, bound generation – a generation bound to drugs, alcohol, porn-watching, gossip-mongering, Facebook!

Fourth, SPAT UPON. This happened twice to Jesus, according to the Scriptures (Matthew 26:67; 27:30).  Only an irresponsible husband was to be spat upon, the Old Testament, one portion of the Bible, tells us (Deuteronomy 25:9). We were irresponsible when it came to using what God had given us and the punishment went to Jesus.

Fifth,  SLAPPED. Jesus was slapped by the High Priest’s servant, the Scriptures note (Matthew 26:67). His sinless mouth was hit hard. The reason – he was dying for a human race that consistently uses its mouth to sin – by lying, by using abusive language, by having oral sex outside of the marriage bond.

Six, SCOURGED. When Jesus was whipped, his back became like a plowed field with strips of flesh hanging loose (See Matthew 27:26 in the Bible).  Only the back of fools was to be whipped, according to the Scriptures (Proverbs 19:29). We were foolish to race behind temporary worldly pleasures (see Hebrews 11:25 in the Bible) ignoring the eternal pleasures at the right hand of God, our Creator (see Psa. 16:11 in the Bible) and the punishment for that sin went to Jesus.

Seventh, STRIPPED. Jesus was stripped off the clothes he originally wore and was then clothed in a scarlet robe (Matthew 27:28). Scarlet robes were only worn by royalty those days. So, the Roman soldiers who made Jesus wear it were making fun of Jesus with words of mockery that could have sounded this way: “You claim to be a King, Jesus? Ha, Ha! You don’t look like a king! Now, wear this scarlet robe and you will look more like a king! Come on, let us fall prostrate before this King!” Jesus was dying for a generation that takes pleasure in making fun of the timid and giggles when they suffer in excruciating pain.

Eighth, SPLINTER-PRESSED. The thorns were pressed on the head of Jesus, a Gospel-writer of the Bible notes (Matthw 27:29). It was you and me who had a big proud head. Those thorns should have come upon us, but Jesus, in his great love, took it upon himself.

Ninth, SHAMED. Only kings of the enemies of the Jews were hung on a tree, publicly, the Bible records (Joshua 10:26). But that shameful punishment came to Jesus, the real King of Kings. Crucifixion on a wooden cross beam was worst punishment reserved for the foulest enemies of the state by the Roman Government. It was akin to being urinated upon in public those days (See, Philippians 2:8 in the Bible). You and I must be publicly humiliated for all our secret, unprintable sins. But Jesus took that punishment on our behalf.

Tenth, SPIKED. Nails were thrashed onto Jesus’ two hands and legs, the Bible tells us (Matthew 27:31). Those nails should have gone on our hands for we sinned against Jesus with our hands and legs. I am referring to sins such as cigar-smoking, masturbation while porn-watching, fondling the intimate parts of the person belonging to the opposite gender not our spouse, walking into a filthy movie show, etc. But Jesus took the punishment for all our sins on the Cross. He was our substitute, the Bible declares (Isaiah 53:4,5; Galatians 2:19,20). The nails could not hold Jesus to the Cross for which nail, however strong, could ever hold God onto a Cross for long? Love did. He could have ripped them off and come down when he was challenged to do that  and scoffed at for refusing to do it (see Mark 15:30 in the Bible). But Jesus stayed on because he loved you and me.

Eleventh, SEPARATED. God turned his face away from Jesus as all of our sins – past, present and future – were placed upon him for six hours, one Friday, about two thousand years ago. At that time, Jesus lost his close fellowship with his holy Heavenly Father who would not even look upon sin. This was a heart-breaking experience for Jesus and so he cried out, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” as the Bible declares (Matthew 27:45-46). He became so utterly lonely so that he would be able to lift the loneliness in your life, the loneliness that comes even when you are rubbing shoulders with plenty of friends in a packed booze party.

Twelfth, SPEARED. This treatment was given to him, minutes after he was dead, the Bible tells us (John 19:34).  The final blood drops in his body came out then. Every drop says, ‘I love you!’ Only this blood can cleanse you from you from every sin, the Bible teaches (I John 1:7)! It is impossible for anything you do or the blood of bulls and goats to take away sin, the Bible makes clear (Hebrews 10:4).

WILL YOU PRESS THE NAILS ONTO HIS HANDS HARDER, OR…

How do you respond to this great love of Christ that was so supremely “demonstrated” while he hung on the Cross (to use a phrase from Romans 5:8 from the Bible)?  You could, in stone-hearted stubbornness, press the nails onto his hands a bit deeper, by continuing to live in sin. That’s one way to respond. You could press down the thorn crown on his head roughly and crudely, once more, in rebellion, by continuing to flirt with the Devil and the world. That’s one way to respond. You could stamp on his holy blood that was shed for you on the Cross by returning to sin like a pig that returns to her wallowing in the mud, as the Bible points out (Hebrews 10:29; 2 Peter 2:22). That’s one way to respond.

Or will you, repent like one of the dying thieves beside Jesus on the Cross like we read in the Bible (Luke 23:42,43)? And would you believe on him (him, who is alive today, him, who is coming back), like the Roman centurion  and those with him who screamed, “This is indeed the Son of God!” as per the Biblical record (Matthew 27:54)? The choice is yours.

WHEN DHONI SPRINTED LIKE USAIN BOLT IN A WORLD CUP GAME….

It was a group game in the World T20 2016 which India had to win to stay in the tournament in the Chinnaswamy stadium Bangalore. And when it came to the last ball, Bangladesh needed two runs to win.  Captain Cool Dhoni had clearly told young rookie Hardik Pandya, the bowler, how to bowl: “no bowling a Yorker, but bowl a well-aimed slightly short-pitched express delivery, wide of the off stump.” Pandya followed Dhoni’s orders to the centimeter. Bangladeshi batsman Shuvgata Hom attempted an offside slash, only to miss connecting with the ball. Dhoni, who had already removed one of his gloves (in anticipation the tail-ender  may miss connecting the ball), calmly collected it and was off his blocks like a 100 meters sprinter! Usain Bolt usually starts slow, but Dhoni had no such problems! He sprinted towards it and broke the wickets catching the non-striker Mustafizur, well short of the crease. The spectators who had their hearts in their mouth, celebrated India’s one run win over Bangladesh in that World T20 game. India’s semifinals hopes were kept afloat following this nerve-wracking one-run win! Shaun Pollock, Darren Ganga, Nick Knight and Russell Arnold, all former cricketers who were on commentary duty during this particular T20 World Cup, slipped into different roles to  create a mock replay of this episode – this last ball runout which resulted in an Indian win was that memorable!

Like Dhoni sprinted towards the stumps, shall we sprint towards God-in-Flesh Jesus to receive salvation for the Bible says, ‘Now is the “acceptable time”, and this very day is the “day of salvation”’(2 Cor. 6:2, Phillips). We tell ourselves, “There’s always time to come to Jesus! There’s always time to get saved!” How foolish such an idea is!

The Bible talks about times when it could be too late for us to come to Jesus and get saved. For instance, we cannot get saved after we have died. There is no chance for salvation after we die – this is the teaching of the Bible (Hebrews 9:27). And sudden death can come to us anytime – can it not? Think of what happened in 2014 to 25-year-old Aussie cricketer Phil Hughes who was struck by a 140 kmph bouncer which struck him at the back of his neck as he took evasive action. He lost consciousness, never to regain it again!

Also, we cannot get saved after we have hardened our hearts beyond a certain limit – a limit that God sets for us, which he alone knows if we have crossed or not. This message jumps out from passages such as Genesis 6 and Romans 1 and from the stories of Pharaoh and King Manasseh in the Bible. So, while the Holy Spirit of God convicts us of our sin, by gently speaking in our heart, we must repent and turn to Christ. If we keep silencing his soft voice, the Holy Spirit of God may never speak to us ever again and we may never be saved eventually!

At this juncture I recall another event from the semifinal of the ODI World Cup of 2015 between India and Australia. After Dhoni and Ajinkya Rahane (who had smashed 79 runs off 60 balls in India’s earlier game versus South Africa to lift India to a surprise, easy, win) stitched a ‘’fight-back” partnership with the goal of overhauling Australia’s king-size knock-out game first innings total of 328 this event which Carly Adno writes about happened: “Dhoni put on a 70-run partnership with Ajinkya Rahane, before the sharp ears of Steve Smith intervened. Smith was the only one who heard a nick off Rahane’s bat when a Mitchell Starc delivery caught the faintest of edges on its way to Brad Haddin.” A umpire review was taken by Australian Captian Michael Clarke following this and Rahane walked back to the pavilion. India’s last recognized batting pair’s partnership was broken and so where India’s hopes of beating Australia in that semifinal.

Just like Steve Smith’s alert ears caught the nick, amidst a noisy crowd in Sydney Cricket Crowd that day, would you listen to the soft, faint voice of the Holy Spirit of God in your soul, telling you to repent now, and put your faith in Christ for your salvation, as you read this piece? Don’t turn off that tender voice! Obey it!

We must not forget that it becomes too late to get saved after Jesus appears in mid-air to judge us, all of a sudden. When Jesus comes back the second time, he is not coming back to offer salvation – but to execute judgment, the Bible teaches (Revelation 1:7). During that final judgment time, there is no way anyone can get saved. The message you are currently reading will be preached to you then. No altar call to come forward and accept Christ would be given then.

Why should we still scratch around with sin even after knowing very well that Jesus came to save us from sin? Sin makes us sad. It does so after giving us an initial elation. Sin will ultimately take us to hell, the Bible declares (Revelation 21:8). Why not join Jesus – the Jesus who died for us, sinners, on the Cross and waits to embrace us with arms open wide? Why not do it this very second, lest it becomes too late.

By praying this prayer you can be saved and receive true joy and real peace which only Jesus can give:

Dear Jesus, I am a sinner. Please forgive my sins. You died for me on the Cross. Cleanse me with your blood. Come into my heart and life. From this day onwards, I will turn away from sin and live for you, who rose from the dead. I believe you are the only way to heaven and will return one day to judge all the earth, as the Bible proclaims. Thank you for saving me. Thank you for cleansing me. In your name I pray. So be it.

Once you have prayed this prayer, get busy with the following regularly because you love Jesus: 1. Studying the Bible (ESV Bible App can be downloaded onto your smart phone). 2. Talking to Jesus in prayer. 3. Joining a Bible-believing church/fellowship 4. Tell others about Jesus, through your life and lip.

G4 MISSION: IMPACTING PEOPLE FROM TINSUKIA TO TIRUNELVELI!

Duke Jeyaraj / Annual Report of G4 Mission 2013

Grabbing the Google Generation from Gehenna Mission (G4 Mission) is an independent ministry founded by Duke Jeyaraj to bless present-day people. It is supported by Indians who have been blessed by the writings and preaching-teaching ministry of Duke Jeyaraj.

We at G4 Mission, wish you a very happy New Year 2014. We praise God for the wonderful way he has led us in 2013.

It was a year of SPIRITUAL BLESSING: My wife and I had intense times of intercession through the year. During May and in November we had specially good week-long times of intercession. God taught us from His Word. We were part of the RZIM National Conference where we learn encouraging, edifying and enlightening truths from Dr. Ravi Zacharias and his speaking team during Sept 2013. While driving our car during 2013, we listened to Uncle R. Stanley’s message, Arrows of Discouragement, which was a blessing. We have been blessed by the preaching of our local pastor, Sis. Arlene Stubbs. Her  series from the book of Hebrews enabled us to learn fresh lessons.

It was a year of MATERIAL BLESSINGS. In 2013, the Lord graciously added very useful things. We don’t do ministry to get things. But things are useful to do the ministry in a more efficient way. We were blessed with a Yellow Vespa Scooter in April 2013. We were blessed with a Benq GP 10 projector this year. As the icing in the God-given cake, we were blessed with a 20 20 Dell All-in-One Personal Computer this December. All the three gifts were given by Indians friends of our little work for the Lord. Three Indians made a single offering/donation/bank transfer for us to be able to buy these. “This is the Lord’s doing and its marvelous in our eyes!”

It was a year of FINANCIAL BLESSINGS. God moved the hearts of Indian folks of our ministry and as a result they made that online transfer, sent that money order, sent money through Western Union, etc, to us, this year. And as a result, every ministry is paid and all our needs were taken care of. We had offerings sent to us from those living Tinsukia to those in Tirunelveli! There were those who sent Rs.200 Rupees, those who sent Rs.2000 rupees and those who sent Rs.20,000 Rupees, this year! And for each of those sacrificial givers we praise God! Even those in full-time ministry were moved by the Spirit to send us an offering this year! Like we always do, we too have given more than a tithe of what we received to ministries we believe the Lord lead us to support, this year.  It was a year of MINISTERIAL BLESSINGS. Because I am in the final phase of working of my Doctor of Ministry project, I did not take up too many preaching assignments this year. Every month of this year, we were able to have a Bible Study for a small group of Google Genners at our home. These message were audio and video recorded and made available in http://www.soundcloud.com/shoutaloud (audio) and in http://www.youtube.com/visitduke (video) for a larger audience. Duke summarized the message of the books of 2nd Peter, John, I John, 2 John, 3 John, Jude and Revelation this year. Each time he used the name of the relevant Bible book as a summary for its message. Duke taught on Sexual Ethics, Fasting, Discipleship and Starting Small Group Fellowship, Intercession, etc, as well to small groups of Youtube Youth, this year. From June 2013, we have had the FOUNTAIN OF TEARS AGAINST MOUNTAIN OF FEARS fasting prayer every month to encourage the Facebook Folks to seek God’s face. It was  a blessing to intercede for the lost, the leaders and nations before praying for personal needs amidst us. Duke and Evan ministered in a camp for corporates in Bangalore, this year. Duke encouraged the believers of a large AG church during their lent season fasting prayer with two messages, this year. Duke spoke in the Sunday Services in towns as diverse as Trichy, Kolkata, New Delhi and Chennai this year. One of his most-remembered messages was from the Bible character of Uriah. He used this character to call the church believers to become faithful soldiers for Jesus. Duke even addressed the married women of a leading church telling them ways from the Bible as to how to understand typical men better, this year. Both Duke and Evan were involved in direct counselling, internet counselling and phone counselling this year. Marriages broken-down, questions about porn-watching, masturbation, sex, relationsihips, life partner choice, etc were answered, biblically and frankly with compassion. Young people were constantly told what they should hear, not what they wanted to hear. Duke’s writing ministry continued this year. Through Facebook updates (http://www.facebook.com/googleduke), through blog posts (http://www.purposespot.blogspot.in), through continued to wrap Bible Truth around contemporary events Jesus style, even this year. We continued to publish our magazine that does that, The Days of Your Youth, this year as well. Not only that. We printed two of our Gospel tracts for the Google Generation this year. The Bubbly tract and the Dhoni tract were given in 10 different locations during 10 different months by G4 Mission volunteers (including Duke) this year. A fellowship in Singapore ordered 300 copies of the Bubbly tract this year. A medical college student fellowship ordered 1000 copies of the Bubbly tract this year. This year Duke made fully online his two books – Straight Talk & Good News for the Google Generation – in his scribd account – http://www.scribd.com/duke_jeyaraj. We continued to distribute our two books. Eight copies of our twin books were ordered by students of Angola origin in the month of December 2013. A young woman living in Jharkhand wrote to us saying, “I have already both your books. When are going to write your next book?” Plans are on the anvil for two more books of Duke. God is blessing our ministry. Our children pray everyday, “Oh God of Isreal, please bless me, expand our borders, let your hand be with me and keep me from evil!” God is answering this prayer.

OUR MINISTRY IN THE SUMMARY DECADE THAT WENT BY (2010-19)

Duke Jeyaraj Ministered in National Level youth programs of Assemblies of God, CSI, a national level meet of a believers fellowship functioning inside a top IT company, etc.

We had different varieties of prayer for the nations, the nation, the Google Generation and your tension (if u showed up) at our base during this decade!!! Fountain of Tears Against Mountain of Fears Fasting Prayer! Month-end Midnight Prayer!

When we Counselled people during this decade we told them what they needed to hear not what they wanted to hear!

Through the decade we published The Days of Your Youth Magazine. This mag wrapped Bible truth around contemporary events in an unique way and blessed readers world over. As the decade closed we had published 39 issues of this mag.

In the decade gone by when invited to minister in the Sunday Morning services of churches of different denominations (Methodist to Mennonite Bretheren; CSI to Assembly of God) we have sought to make ‘regular’ services ‘revival’ services by preaching anointed freshly baked unforgettable messages!!!

Over the decade that has gone by God has enabled us to publish several articles of practical value in Nationally recognised Christian Mags such as Light of Life and Aim

Wrote three books to bless the Google Generation with Straight Talk being the most widely read!

We have done tract distribution every month in different places in Hyderabad thro this decade at a time when this ministry went ‘out of fashion’!

Ministered in Bangladesh, Singapore, Bhutan and UAE in the decade that went by

Over the decade that has gone by we have submitted our IT returns each year with Govt of India following a non-relatives included Board Meeting approval. Our financial support has come from Indians/people of Indian origin.

During the last decade we were at the forefront of the public fight against taking-people-to-hell and maturity-robbing false teachings like hyper-grace / hyper-Israel / hyper-supernaturalism via social media posts/mag articles/Sound Doctrine Bible Studies.

Touching Medicos of Ludhiana (North India) and Leprosy-stricken of Ambur (South India)

Green Christmas Family Reunion Photo Collage

God blessed our ministry in 2019.

It was an year of several firsts:

It was the year in which Duke Jeyaraj preached in Punjab for the first time; It was the year in which Duke Jeyaraj preached in the nation of United Arab Emirates for the first time; It was the year in which Duke spoke in a National Level event of the CSI for the first time; It was the year in which Duke’s cumulative YouTube channel crossed 4 lakh hits (400,000 hits) – http://www.youtube.com/visitduke.

Duke preached messages that stroked the flames of revival and warmed hearts in different churches across India: Trinity Assemblies of God (South) / in a Baptist Church in Cuttack (during a wedding) (East) / in Bethel City Church in Gurgaon (North) / in Emmanuel Assembly of God youth camp (West).

It was an year in which Duke preached in a funeral in Madurai as well as a wedding in Cuttack. It was an year in which Duke preached in a memorial service in Nagarcoil.

Duke’s articles appeared in Light of Life, Christian Trends and Aim magazine this  year. The Week magazine (a secular national news mag of India) published a letter of Duke which called out the sin of porn-watching, this year.

“You killed it!” / “I waited for someone to call out sin for a long time and here you come!” – these are actual words of Google Genners who heard Duke this year.

Evan Duke preached God’s Word in the Sanath Nagar Baptist Church and in CSI Ramkote apart from Emmanuel Assembly of God youth camp, this year (with 400 in attendance). She stayed back and took care of the Dale and Datasha as Duke traveled (Dale scored 93% in his CBSE Class X this year). Evan Duke along with Pushpa Kalyan led an outreach to Eunuchs/Commercial Sex Workers this year.

God used Duke & Evan to bless couples who gathered in Rock Church, Malakpet this year. Duke’s message on ingredients of an incredible marriage touched the couples. Evan also joined him at various points of this talk that had fun activities for everyone too apart from old fashioned Bible preaching.

Several questions of youth were answered via live Q and A during this year including, “Can I donate my sperms to make money for my education?”

The Short Videos on Hot Topics series with our volunteer Sunny Karumanchi behind the lens continued this year with questions like this answered: “Can I shoot nude videos of my wife for my private use during my work travels?” Here is the playlist with all the videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2z1uBimIneyCnEH_8fvNAlP4a8EXfL52

Duke preached in the Spiritual Emphasis week of two Bible Colleges – one in Coimbatore’s outskirts and the other in Hyderabad’s outskirts. They were charmed, challenged and charged!

One top ministry-involved business-man spoke to Duke over phone to a few months after he had preached in a leading church this year from the story of David-Bathsheba. He said this: “Preachers usually avoid the topics you took up and preached boldly on during the course of this unforgettable message!”

Duke countered some fresh false cults like the Hyper Messianic Jewish cult (“Jesus plus a Jewish rabbi saves!” – their wrong teaching) and Hyper-Super-naturalism via Facebook Live/YouTube videos/Articles

To counter false teachings that takes people to hell, we run a once-in-two-months Bible Study called Sound Doctrine That Pumps Spiritual Adrenaline Bible Study in the home of the Daniels in Somajiguda, Hyderabad. We had six such studies this year. The last study focused on the Doctrine of Heaven. The acronym HEAVEN was used as an outline. We have now completed 18 such doctrinal studies that are now on this YouTube playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2z1uBimInezu8UXPPGS6EvNEeTU5KUie

Duke was invited by Rev. Chaitanya Gera to give two messages in two different Sundays of 2019 on different characters of God – The Justice of God and The Truthfulness of God. These messages were far from being dry doctrinal expositions. They brought people to the foot of the Cross and led them to make decisions for evangelism.

The literature of our ministry was used for evangelism post a wedding, in a secular hostel and by a Google employee.

We stood at various points in Hyderabad and gave out tracts including outside India’s largest mall, outside schools, outside colleges, outside corporate hubs. We had devos post the distribution in which Duke reminded those who joined the biblical reasons for doing evangelism.

We wrapped Bible Truth around events that got everyone talking Jesus-style, Paul-style, including the India-New Zealand World Cup Semifinal 2019 and the Vet’s Rape-Murder in Hyderabad.

Issue 39 of our mag was released this year. One reader mentioned it was our best-ever effort (a lot of credit goes to our volunteer designer Eugene Pandian).

From time to time we ran an event called Fountain of Tears Against Mountain of Fears Fasting prayer this year. We prayed for the nations (first), the nation (India, second) and the Google Generation (finally). Of course, Evan Duke completed the prayer by praying for one more ‘ion’ – the tension(s) faced by those who came! We praise God for a miracle a couple who attended this prayer received this year – a child after seven years of marriage!

We released more Bible Teaching on sex, love, marriage, porn in Hindi (thanks to the sweat and mid-night oil-burning of another volunteer).

Two of our plans hosted on  YouVersion has crossed a lakh reads!

Duke’s book, Straight Talk, was fully sold out in 2019 and plans are on the anvil for the updated version of the book in 2020.

We spoke to medicos in Ludhiana (North India) as well as the precious folk stricken with leprosy near Ambur  (South India) this year!

All this was possible because of your sacrificial, supplication-soaked, giving! We filed IT returns with the Government of India, yet again, this year!

Our ministry remains inter-church (we ministered in CSI as well as in  Assemblies of God) and inter-organisational (we ministered in an ICPF camp as well as an EU camp as in a loosely-connected fellowship of corporate company believers from different companies in Bangalore) – this year! We have no plans of starting a church of our own. We seek to assist existing churches in the work of reaching the Google Generation, making deeper disciples of Jesus who delight in holy living and mission/ministry involvement. So when Duke preached in the Rose of Sharon AG Church in Bangalore this year, he brought two messages that were crafted just to do that! So when Duke preached in an open air meeting of the SPG Church on 30 Dec 2019, he preached a message designed just to do that!

It was an year that Duke set up a website just for his articles called http://www.dukewords.com and also used now famous app TikTok to preach God’s Word!

Our son, Dale Nathan (16) was baptised in water this year out of his free will at the NLAG Kompally campus earlier this year.

It was an year in which God healed Duke of a 11 mm stone in his kidney – it came out without surgical intervention!

God blessed our ministry with a Iphone that was gifted during one of Duke’s ministry travels. It was an awesome tool send WhatsApp updates to ministry friends and click great pictures of the events we get to speak in.

Among our main needs now is a Desktop/Laptop with adequate speed to do video-editing. We will happily even take an used Desktop/Laptop with at-least i7 processor and 8 GB ram or any Apple machine (MacBook Pro/iMac).

WHEN SUPER-SMART KIWIS CRASH-LANDED INDIAN FLIGHT ‘DREAM-LINER WORLD CUP 2019’ / a Duke Jeyaraj Bible Devo

dhoni-run-out

New Zealand (called Kiwis in the Cricketing World) crash-landed Indian flight, “Dream-Liner World Cup 2019” on 9-10 July 2019 ODI at Manchester, England.  Here are some life lessons/Bible lessons from that stunning defeat that India faced.

The first reason for India’s defeat was the shrewdness of Kiwi Captain Kane Williamson. When he arrived at the pitch following the cheap dismissal of Martin Guptill, he conducted a pitch assessment. He knew it was more of a 250 pitch than a 300 plus pitch. So he adjusted accordingly and instructed his team to play that way. That was why Ross Taylor was running twos instead of trying to hit sixes in the last few overs of the New Zealand innings. Jesus commanded us to be “shrewd as snakes” (Matt 10:16). We must be willing to start with points of interest of those we are sharing the Gospel with before we moving on to points of possible conflict (like the uniqueness of Jesus/day of judgment/eternal hell), as wise and shrewd Apostle Paul illustrated in his Gospel presentation in Athens (Acts 17).

Dropping Mohammed Shami, the man who kept picking up wickets whenever he got to play, including a hat-trick, was a huge blunder. He could have played instead of Y. Chahal. What’s wrong in going in with four fast bowlers and a spinner – your best five bowlers as per form – for a knockout game? There is no rule that for a balanced attack you need to have two spinners along with three spinners. Chahal leaked crucial runs (He gave 18 runs in a pathetic over). Kohli needed to be daringly different when it came to team selection. He could have even tried Mayank Agrawal  (who has not played a ODI for India, but is a solid player with the right technique) as the opener for the semis. Rahul could have batted at Number 4. Dinesh Karthick could have been dropped. It takes guts to hand a debut to a player in a World Cup SemiFinal, but that brave, hat-ke (different) decision would have given India the match. Spiritual Lesson: Be different. Joseph was not like his brothers. One brother slept with Father’s wife. Another with his daughter in law. But Joseph was different. He did not follow the crowd in doing wrong (Exodus 23:2). He became Prime Minister of Egypt. He became a picture of Jesus.

Rohit Sharma, India’s stand-out batsmen of the Cup, got an unplayable ball and got out for 1. But sitting in the balcony, he signaled to Jadeja during the dying moments of India’s chase. “You have strength. You can do it!” – he conveyed using goosebumps giving gestures. That was team spirit at its very best. Rohit should be given the responsibility of leading India in the 2023 World Cup/2020 T20 World Cup. Kohli cannot win you a Limited Overs tournament, unless something changes dramatically. Checkout his record for RCB, Bangalore. He became captain of RCB in 2013. He has not won an IPL Trophy till 2019. Check his record in the Champions Trophy 2017  and the 2019 World Cup. He lost both. Coming back to Rohit (He had the tears in his eyes when Dhoni got out. When was the last time you cried? Have you wept for the lost? Jeremiah wept for the people before he whipped them with words of scorching warning). You may have failed, but you can still motivate your team-mates, like Rohit did in the semifinal. Paul was a Team Player. The New Testament scholars talk about 60 people who were part of Paul’s team during his ministry. Are you part of a ministry team? Do you encourage your team members?kohli out

Virat Kohli’s poor run in knock-out ICC World-Stage ODI games continues – 9 (vs Pak in 2011 Cup Semis); 1 (vs Aus in 2015 Cup Semis); 5 (vs Pak in Champions Trophy Final 2017); 1 (vs NZ in World Cup Semis 2019). When the stakes get higher, the super-star should be at his very best. When the important moment comes, you must be incredible! The Kohli tactic of playing the Semis as another game failed. When Rohit got out, Kohli should have defended as if his life depended on it like Dinesh Karthik later would at the start of his innings. Once he was set, he should have gone for his shots. Kohli should have ‘surrendered to the needs of the team situation’ instead of playing his natural game. The purpose for which He came to the World Cup – to win it – was defeated when he played his natural game (He did the same in the 2015 World Cup Semis too, when he top edged a pull/hook, a needless aggressive shot at that time). When the important moment of his life came – the time to die for the sake of the sins of the world – Jesus prayed. He stayed in touch with His Father. He yielded to the will of his father. While all others failed – his disciples ran helter-skelter – he did not. He fulfilled the purpose for which he came by focusing on what he came to do through the discipline of prayer!

Young Rishabh Pant got out, having got worked up for no reason. After four dot balls, he goes for an irresponsible shot only to be caught. He and Pandya were going well. Instead of ensuring the match went to his pocket, he sends a rocket because of four continuous dot balls, he was forced to play. Lesson: Don’t fret. Don’t panic. Stay calm. Cast your burdens onto Jesus. Then the peace that passes all understanding will be yours. The 21-year old Pant missed the opportunity of a lifetime to take India to a win in this semi-final. Do not spend the strength of your youth on sinful living but make your one life count for Jesus. It was a privilege for me to start a ministry at the age of 31 and quit my job with an international bank at the age of 34 to do fulltime ministry with the organisation I started. I have no regrets.pandya out

Hardik Pandya who lectured Pant with his eyes when Pant got out, got out in similar fashion – sending a rocket into the heavens which fell into safe hands of the New Zealand Captain, Kane Williamson. Practice what you preach. Don’t be like the Pharisees. Be like Jesus. He spoke about prayer’s importance in Gethsemane to his inner three and prayed right after.

Dhoni should have showed more intent (same old story). He does not have to wait till the 49th over first ball to hit a six. He consumed 20 dot balls in his partnership with Jadeja (who played one of best ever innings by a No. 8 batsmen in a World Cup knockout game hitting four 4s and four 6s). Don’t be a spectator when your partner is spectacular. That was Dhoni’s sin. Don’t be spectator to your pastor’s ministry in the local church. The Bible teaches the priesthood of all believers (I Peter 2:9). You are a priest unto God as a New Testament believer.  Get involved in God’s Work! Give a tract! Pray for the sick! Lead a Bible Study! Care for the needy and sign out by sharing the Goodnews! Be a church volunteer! Do something for Jesus in the one life you have moved by his love!

Dhoni took six singles in the few balls before Jadeja holed out because of the compulsions of a climbing run-rate. Why did Dhoni not try to hit a six or a boundary, even before? Was he afraid of getting out? Why did he have to wait for Jadeja to all the hitting? Sambit Bal wrote, “From 71 for 5 and then 92 for 6, India would have sunk rapidly without Dhoni’s steadying hand, and yet, despite the 59-ball 77 from Jadeja, the run rate had mounted to over 15 when Jadeja was dismissed. To that 116-partnership, Dhoni had contributed 32 off 45 balls with 20 dots. Without him, the chase would have been dead long before but the question that will linger is: did he also make it nearly unachievable?” I agree with him. It was Dhoni’s tortoise-approach/no-big-shots approach that forced Hardik Pandya to go for the big one, only to be caught. Who knows what would have happened if Pandya – who hit a 90 plus off 30 plus in the IPL 2019  – had batted till the end? Don’t procrastinate. Don’t postpone matters. It leads to defeat. It leads to peril. Don’t procrastinate your salvation decision. Here’s why: You can die anytime (think of Absalom/Ahab) and after death there is no chance of salvation (Heb. 9:27). Jesus will come like thief in the night. After Jesus comes again, there is no chance of salvation. He is Savior today and judge tomorrow. The Holy Spirit may stop speaking to stubborn you (Gen. 6:3). After that, you can’t get saved. So come now. Serve Jesus now. When you get old even lavatory journey is troublesome (Eccl. 12). What missionary journey will you do? Now is the time to let it rip for Jesus.6 FIELDERS

When Dhoni got out in the 49th over, there were six fielders outside the 30 yard circle. The Rule Book says only five are allowed between Overs 41 through 50. The Umpires missed it. A big blunder. Ideally, a no-ball should have been signaled when the moment the ball was delivered. That would have given Dhoni enough time to hit the ball high in the air – as high as possible – and run for a two comfortably or try for another six without the fear of getting out (which he had through the tournament, the major reason for his go-slow approach). But Dhoni returned for a risky second run and Guptill’s throw hit the stumps. Human errors keep happening on this side of eternity. These result in cases of injustice. All justice matters will be sorted out on the final day of judgment when Jesus will be the judge. We need to wait till that day. Will there be justice, ever, you ask? Yes, there will be justice on the final day of judgment.

Martin Guptill failed with the bat, but his bulls-eye throw in the 49th over to run out Dhoni got New Zealand to the Cup final – we can say that. You may have sinned against the Lord. You may committed an unprintable sin. Repent of it. Come to Jesus. Ask for the cleansing of His blood. And with the help of the Spirit live a holy life (Rom. 8:13). By having an accountability friend you can consistently beat temptation (think of David-Nathan). You don’t have to keep goofing up. You can be a victorious Christian!11jadeja1

Jadeja got a bit carried away with his celebrations post his fifty. He gestured to Commentator Sanjay Manjrekar in a way asking what happened to his views that he was only a bits and pieces player who did not deserve to be in the Indian Team XI. If he had focused on the unfinished task, the task of taking India to a win that would have been great. The unfinished task of evangelism remains before the church. Let us quit fighting over silly matters (I am not talking about fighting salvation-affecting false doctrine here). Let those involved in the ministry not get into ego clashes. Let’s get on with the unfinished task of World Evangelism (North India remains the World’s most populated un-evangelized stretch).

THE ROHIT HAND SIGNAL FROM THE BALCONY; THE JESUS HAND STRETCH FROM CALVARY! India-New Zealand World Cup 2019 Semifinals – a poem by Duke Jeyaraj with a message at the end)

rohit sharma signal

rohit hand gesture

A quick assessment of the pitch the incoming Kane Williamson made, as soon as Guptill got out

Plans for a 250 plus score rather than a 300 plus score,  began to immediately sprout,

The Kiwis ran furious 2s instead of going for big shots to reach 239 to set up a tantalizing bout,

Rohit, Kohli, KL and DK  went and the Indian were starting at a definite, by-New Zealand, semis rout,

Before Youngguns Pant and Pandya a way out from the Certain Defeat cave they fiercely cut,

Impatient Pant after four dot balls skied a shot only to be caught – why did play that shot, but?

After Pandya perished Jadeja’s  lusty, valiant blows ended India’s boundary drought!

But Dhoni’s go-slow now, acceleration later approach made the required run-rate stout!

44 off 26 to win with two set batsmen in at one point – India were very much in the game then, no doubt!

Instead of going for 6s, Dhoni ran 6 singles in the next few balls & in-the-Dhoni-created-pressure, Jadeja holed out

As Dhoni hit a goosebumps giving six over backward-point in ball 49.1 – India’s World Cup dream did not yet logout!

Guptill ran-out Dhoni at a time when 6 fielders were outside the circle – a clear case of rule flout!

India’s collective heart-beat stopped as teary eyed Dhoni walked back towards his team’s hut!

“We are the team that crash-landed Flight No. ODI World Cup No.3 For India’ – that is now New Zealand’s deserving strut!

When Rohit Sharma, flexed muscles to signal the ‘Be Strong – You Can Take India To A Win’ to Jadeja & my heart did jut!

But did you know that Jesus stretched his arms and died, he signaled, ‘You have hope for the Salvation Door even for the worst ever sinner is not shut!’

Turn from sin and put your faith in the only God-in-flesh Jesus and you will find peace-amidst-the-storm in your gut!
